rockah. DNA
rockah. jewelry is inspired by the aesthetics of the ancient world. We aim to preserve the traditional methods and techniques of early jewelers, and pay tribute to their craftsmanship. Many skills refined over hundreds of years are now becoming all too rare. The preservation of traditional crafts is a fundamental part of cultural heritage, and one we are committed to showcasing through our jewelry.
Metal aging is another core part of rockah. DNA. Our deliberate choice is to use only natural metals such as bronze and silver which possess a unique feature: they transform and age with time. rockah. bronze rings, necklaces and earrings live and breathe with you, and develop their own unique patina over time. Just like us, our jewelry is constantly changing, gradually revealing its soul. The patina and marks on a piece of jewelry are just as natural as the laughter lines that appear in the corner of your eyes.
Bronze
Bronze is an alloy of tin and copper which naturally oxidizes in contact with oxygen and moisture. With time and wear, copper develops a dark brown or greenish patina known as verdigris.
Discoloration occurs mostly with bronze rings, due to their close proximity to the skin. Patination is a natural process and will not damage your skin or cause an allergic reaction. Keep your bronze pieces in their best condition by following our “Care & Wear” suggestions.
Silver
Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper, which can tarnish naturally when it comes into contact with oxygen and moisture.
While the addition of copper to the silver makes it more durable, copper is also what makes sterling silver more susceptible to tarnishing over time. Tarnishing can be easily prevented by following our “care and wear” suggestions.
Patina
The verdigris present on our bronze jewelry is the result of an accelerated oxidation process that replicates the natural aging of bronze. Each piece is patinated by hand, giving it a unique appearance.
Although we stabilize the patina, it may wear off and change its appearance over time, due to the continuous process of metal oxidation and wear. Keeping your patinated pieces away from water, alcohol, chemicals and cosmetics will help to preserve their color.
Pearls
Pearls are organic gemstones that are vulnerable to acid, alcohol and extremes of humidity. To preserve the radiance of your pearls, avoid letting them come into contact with perfume, cosmetics and hair spray.
Remember to put on your pearls as the final touch, after styling your hair and applying make-up. After every wear, wipe your pearls with a soft cloth and let them dry completely before storing. Wear your pearls regularly to keep them hydrated and lustrous.
Terracotta/Porcelain/Painted Miniatures
This selection of one-of-a-kind detachable pendants, designed to complement the interchangeable pearl base and bracelet, are handcrafted by artisans. Each piece is skillfully worked in stabilized terracotta, porcelain and painted porcelain. Natural pigments are blended to produce a range of different colors.
Even though we stabilize all the materials and painted designs, these pieces should be treated with loving consideration and care. Avoid dropping the pieces or bringing them into contact with hard surfaces. To clean the delicate miniatures, use a soft toothbrush with mild soap and lukewarm water, gently applying minimal pressure to the surface. Dry carefully with a soft cotton cloth and leave to air dry. Store separately from other pieces in a cloth pouch.
Amber/Coral/Turquoise and other natural gemstones
Organic or not, all the gemstones used by rockah. are natural and untreated, without the use of dyes. Loving maintenance and care will ensure these gems continue to give lasting enjoyment. Please store every piece individually in a separate cloth pouch in a cool, dark and dry place.
